That promise, opinion polls suggested, proved broadly popular with the American people, including with legal immigrants, who felt that too many people were coming into the country the "wrong way".

Honestly, I get wanting to crack down on crime, but this is going way too far. These are families, workers, even students being targeted now. This isn’t just about "criminals" anymore — it’s turning into a full-blown attack on anyone who doesn’t fit the mold. We’re better than this. America is built by immigrants, and treating them like criminals just for trying to build a better life? That’s not the country I want to live in.

It’s a complicated issue. On one hand, the government has a responsibility to enforce immigration laws. On the other, it’s hard to see families and hard-working people being affected. There needs to be a better balance between security and compassion.
